The India Digital Health Network (IDHN) is hosting the Third Annual India Digital Health Innovation Workshop on January 6 and 7 in Bengaluru. This invitation-only event is co-hosted by St. John’s Research Institute, the India Digital Health Network at the Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute at Harvard University, Social Alpha’s Community Science Alliance, and Dell Technologies. This two-day workshop brings together clinicians, public health experts, community health workers, community-based organizations, entrepreneurs, computer scientists, legal experts, and policy makers from across India’s digital health ecosystem, to examine the most pressing challenges facing digital health innovation and implementation. 

This white paper identifies the technical, regulatory, and translational gaps that preclude the effective integration of novel data streams into field response.

Despite the long standing excitement about the potential for digital tools, Big Data and AI to transform our lives, these innovations–with some exceptions–have so far had little impact on the greatest public health emergency of our time, explains Satchit Balsari, Caroline Buckee, and Andrew Schroeder in Plos Digital Health.

Building integrated translational pipelines that use data rapidly and effectively to address health effects of natural disasters will require substantial investment, which must rely on evidence of which approaches improve outcomes. But promising solutions are available.
